Job: Engineering Technician

Location: Cheddar, Somerset

Hours: Monday to Friday (Standard 8am -5pm) + Overtime + Call-Outs

Contract: Permanent

Overview:

We are seeking an Engineering Technician (workshop based) for our client based in Cheddar. You will be responsible for the repair, maintenance, and testing of electrical motors, pumps, gearboxes, together with other mechanical equipment. This hands-on role requires technical expertise, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to workshop tasks as assigned by the Supervisor or Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose faults and carry out repairs on electrical motors, pumps, gearboxes, and associated equipment.
  • Dismantle, inspect, clean, and reassemble components to manufacturer specifications.
  • Perform routine maintenance and testing to ensure equipment is safe and operational.
  • Fault-finding on breakdown equipment, demonstrating excellent problem-solving and time management skills
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and company policies.
  • Operate workshop machinery and tools safely and efficiently.
  • Maintain accurate records of work completed, parts used, and time taken.
  • Assist with inventory management and ordering of spare parts.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives within the workshop.
  • Ensure deadlines are met to meet with customer expectations.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • To be available for call outs (on a rata basis) or overtime as directed by the Workshop Supervisor or Manager.
  • Collaborate with team members and communicate effectively with supervisors.

Skills & Attributes:

  • Proven experience in repairing and maintaining electrical motors, pumps, and gearboxes.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical fault-finding skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and manuals.
  • Familiarity with workshop tools and diagnostic equipment.
  • Good understanding of health and safety practices.
  • Computer skills are essential (basic knowledge).
  • Flexibility towards working outside of core hours
