Having joined Riverside in 2019, Sally has become a hugely valued member of the team, building strong relationships with both clients and candidates while developing an impressive understanding of some incredibly complex roles and industries.

Recruitment with personality

As a Recruitment Consultant, Sally’s days are varied and fast-paced, but her focus is always the same — finding the right person for the right opportunity.

From speaking with candidates and managing vacancies to supporting clients throughout the recruitment process, no two days ever look alike.

What Sally enjoys most about recruitment is the people side of the role. She prides herself on creating positive relationships and making people feel comfortable from the very first conversation.

“I aim to put people at ease, both on the phone and in person, with clients or candidates.”

It’s this relaxed and approachable style that clients and candidates value most. Sally openly admits she’s “not the typical pushy sales recruiter” — something she believes makes all the difference when building long-term trust.

From pub conversation to recruitment consultant

Unlike many recruiters, Sally didn’t originally plan for a career in recruitment.

In fact, her Riverside journey began when Ian approached her “down the pub” — a story that still makes the office laugh today.

At the time, she knew very little about recruitment, but over the years she has built a huge amount of expertise through one simple approach:

“Research, research, research.”

Since joining Riverside, Sally has developed an in-depth understanding of a wide range of complex roles and industries, helping clients secure the right talent and supporting candidates in finding opportunities that genuinely suit them.

One of her proudest achievements so far has been successfully placing a candidate into a £70k role — a moment that really highlighted the impact recruitment can have on people’s lives and careers.

The reality behind recruitment

While recruitment can be incredibly rewarding, Sally is also honest about the challenges that come with the job.

“It can be incredibly stressful. You can be flying high one day, and the very next day everything can go pear shaped.”

But it’s the relationships, successes and people that keep her motivated — along with the variety each day brings.

Life outside the office

Outside of work, Sally is every bit as sociable as her colleagues describe her.

Whether it’s spending time with friends, heading off on holiday or enjoying a night out, she loves being around people and making memories — especially if there’s a cocktail involved.

A self-confessed travel lover, Sally says her favourite destinations so far have been the Maldives and Skiathos, although her travel wish list is still “endless”.

When she’s not socialising or travelling, she also enjoys quieter weekends at home catching up on reality TV.
