Nursery Deputy Manager

Bath – Combe Down area

Full time hours would be 40 hours between 7.30am – 6.30pm Monday to Friday.

Salary for the role will be negotiable depending on the successful candidate’s level of experience and qualifications held, but will be circa £26,124.00 – £31,220.00 per annum – (Level 6 being at the higher end.)

Our client who is are a small friendly Nursery based in walking distance from Bath City Centre are currently recruiting for an Deputy Nursery Manager to join their team – The nursery is a Small, unique and in a beautiful Grade II listed building.

The nursery provides high-quality care and education for children aged from three months to five years, 51 weeks of the year. Open from 7.30 am until 6.30 pm Monday to Friday, They offers a range of flexible attendance schedules including full day, school days and morning and afternoon sessions, both all year round and term time only.

They are supported in their endeavours by a team of highly qualified and experienced early year’s practitioners. There is a small outdoor area that provides different outdoor play experiences and the forest school leader takes the pre-school children out to the woods while the toddlers have fun doing ‘muddy puddle’ walks in the local park.

The nursery has been awarded accreditation by the Early Years Nutrition Partnership for its commitment to providing children with healthy meals and snacks and to encouraging children to learn about healthy lifestyles and the importance of making healthier choices.

Key responsibilities

To lead the implementation of the Early Years Foundation Stage ensuring that all children attending the setting are kept safe and receive rich and stimulating play experiences which support all areas of learning in the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum

To support the manager and team to meet requirements of Ofsted registration with relation to delivery of the Early Years Foundation stage curriculum and nursery education grant funding, special needs, child protection and Health and Safety and to ensure that company policies and procedures are adhered to.

In the absence of the manager to undertake the overall day-to-day management of the nursery.

Childcare and Education

  • To support room leaders to lead the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum.
  • To provide high standards of quality within the nursery including the environment, resources and experiences offered to children
  • To lead curriculum planning and to ensure team maintain accurate and effective children’s records.
  • To support children’s key person’s to take responsibility for all aspects of children’s safety, emotional well-being and learning and development
  • To be responsible for supporting teams to complete curriculum planning and to maintain accurate and effective children’s records for key group.
  • To promote and facilitate partnership with parents/carers and other family members
  • To support the development of good practice with regard to special needs and inclusion
  • To work with the Manager and senior team to continuously improve quality of childcare and education.
  • To ensure that children are kept safe and that staff understand and when necessary follow Child Protection Procedures.
  • To ensure that the nutritional needs of the children are met and that Food Safety Regulations are complied with.
  • To comply with the ‘Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage’, relevant legislation including the Children Act 1989 and 2004 and company policies and procedures at all times.
  • To develop and maintain highly professional working relationships with advisory teachers, schools, area senco’s and other agencies.
  • To remain abreast of current developments in childcare and education policy and practice


  • To assist the manager with the effective day to day management of the nursery
  • To support the manager and staff during Ofsted Inspections and to assist in the implementation of any recommendations
  • To assist the manager in monitoring and budgets and maintaining petty cash systems.
  • To assist the manager with the collection, recording and banking of fees.
  • To promote the nursery to current parents and potential customers
  • To support the manager and staff during Ofsted Inspections and to assist in the implementation of any recommendations
  • Contribute to and participate in team meetings/team activities, outside of working hours if necessary.
  • To attend monthly staff meetings outside normal working hours


  • To support and supervise Practitioners in their teams and other staff in the nursery with their day to day duties
  • To support and mentor staff and students
  • To assist the manager with the recruitment induction procedure of all new staff.


  • To develop and promote parental partnership and involvement
  • To ensure written communications, including observations and summary reports, of the team are of a satisfactory standard
  • To use available technology, where available, to assist themselves and team members with written communications if needed.
